“I loved the fact that SRK’s looks weren’t perfect”

Editor’s note: A huge SRK fan, Heather
Saville-Gupta is more a Bollyphile than an
Indophile really. Born and brought up in
Devon, one of the sleepiest parts of England,
she left UK in 2000 for a year, and never
went back to live since. She ended up
working in Thailand and then Mumbai,
where she’s lived and worked since
2003. She married an Indian in 2008 and is
mother to a one-year-old, Jake. An
advertising and marketing professional by
background, she slipped into Human
Resources for a few years and has now
given up her corporate job to write a book
full time.
By Heather Saville-Gupta
My love affair with Hindi Cinema has been a
eight-year journey which has taken me
from being a starstruck fan to taking up a
job that bought me up close and personal
with the stars, yet did not fulfill my ultimate
dream — to meet the badshah of
Bollywood.
I arrived in Mumbai in 2003, bang in the
middle of Diwali. The festival of lights was
exotic, exciting and larger than life. For five
days, I was on a sensory overload; my ears
ringing with the incessant sounds of
firecrackers, and my eyes wide at the
blanket of light that had enveloped the city.
I fell in love with the chaos, the spectacle
and felt more alive despite the madness, the
dirt and the obvious signs of poverty.
My Bollywood obsession was a natural
development during those honeymoon
days in Mumbai. I loved the over-the-top
sets, the gaudy costumes, the fact that
every film had an identical story with
interchangeable stars. I willingly suspended
my disbelief as the actors sang against ever
changing backdrops, one moment
shimmying at a wedding in India, the next
moment, locked in a passionate embrace in
the Swiss Alps; the heroine clad in a sari
which had inexplicably become dripping
wet. I waited anxiously at the end of every
movie for the handsome protagonist to kiss
his girl, and was always disappointed when
the lip-on-lip action failed to materialise.
The stars were all wonderfully stereotyped,
the female leads were gorgeous, pouty and
spent a lot of time batting their eyelashes at
the objects of their affection, who were
either macho mustachioed older guys, or
prettier slim hipped boys with puppy dog
eyes.
I soon chose my favourites; I was
entranced by the brooding looks of Shah
Rukh Khan and mesmerised by Hrithik
Roshan’s light eyes and sardonic smile. I
saw as many of their movies as I could;
though my Hindi wasn’t great, the storylines
were predictable so the language barrier
was never an issue. I swooned over SRK
in Veer Zaara and Kal Ho Naa Ho, and sighed
over Hrithik in Krrish, though unfortunately
I kept laughing out loud at all the serious
bits, much to the disgust of the
cinemagoers seated next to me (it was
payback for their incessantly trilling mobile
phones, frankly).
More than anything, I wanted to meet my
heroes in person. I tried extracting favours
from people who I knew moved in
influential circles. I attended Page 3 parties
in the hope that they might be there. I hung
out in cool bars and restaurants which
apparently attracted a filmi crowd, but to no
avail. I fed my addiction instead by
watching more of their movies — Main
Hoon Na, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch
Kuch Hota Hai, Koi Mil Gaya, Lakshya. My
idols, of course, were all over the billboards
and in the newspapers, and I was never far
from a shot of SRK looking sexy and
extolling the virtues of some product or the
other. I purchased all the film soundtracks,
filled my iPod with wonderfully melodious
tracks, learned a few of the Hindi choruses,
and insisted on playing them loudly in my
car whenever I visited England. In short, I
was completely addicted to this fascinating
new world which I had stumbled upon.
As I settled into Mumbai, I became
completely obsessed with Shah Rukh in
particular, and spent hours gazing at his
picture which popped up as the
screensaver on my laptop. I even hung
around Mannat (his Bandra residence) for a
while in the hope of a brief glimpse of my
hero.
Individually, his features were not attractive
in the slightest. Together, they created a
look which made me jelly kneed — the
unruly eyebrows, the permanently
furrowed forehead, the gorgeously
kissable, full lips and even the huge nose
worked perfectly together. I loved the fact
that SRK’s looks weren’t perfect. I was
captivated by the eyebrow that wandered
permanently off to the right; the slightly
apologetic half smile, the mournful dark
eyes and the gravelly cigarette smoky
voice. I imagined various scenarios — I’d
meet him in a bar, we’d strike up a
conversation, he’d be captivated by my
British accent, and he’d invite me for dinner.
We’d develop a deep friendship, we’d meet
for clandestine cups of coffee, and have
deep conversations during which he’d ask
for my opinions on the movies he was
considering.
As I settled into life in Mumbai, and as the
months turned into years, I found myself
slowly growing weary of the same old
story lines and identical scenery which
formed the majority of mainstream Hindi
cinema. I started watching Hindi movies
which seemed to be a little different, films
like Black and Rang De Basanti, and later Dev
D and No One Killed Jessica – films which felt
fresher and less cookie cutter in terms of
plot and characterisation. The only thing I
couldn’t shake however was my obsession
for Shah Rukh Khan and I vowed that
somehow, somewhere I’d meet him.
In 2007, I quit my job in advertising and
joined UTV, which was at that point in time
developing a name for itself as a
heavyweight production house, and was
forging a progressive path in terms of
developing edgy and different movies. With
the job came various perks and privileges
including tickets to premieres, and the
chance to meet some of the stars. Over the
next couple of years I met some of the
bigger names, including John Abraham,
Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan
and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan. I even met
Hrithik Roshan, my erstwhile hero, and
though I did feel my heart beat a little faster
when he put his arm around me to pose for
a picture, I knew that this was nothing
compared to the way I’d react if I met my
true hero SRK. Although by now, I was
taking Bollywood in my stride, and was
generally less star-struck than I’d been a
few years earlier when I was fresh off the
boat, I still longed to meet my idol.
Today, I am fully settled into India and
consider myself to be “almost local”, with an
Indian husband, half Indian child and PIO or
Person of Indian Origin status. I enjoy the
odd Bollywood movie and smile when I see
other foreigners arrive in India and throw
themselves into a similar frenzy when they
discover the movies and the stars. I love the
fact that Indian films are becoming popular
amongst international audiences and that
the so-called “new age” Hindi cinema is
being talked about by western columnists in
heavyweight magazines and newspapers,
and I feel proud to be connected, however
distantly, with this world. Although my
fascination with Bollywood has waned over
the years, my obsession with SRK is as
strong as ever, and I still harbour my dream
of meeting him one day.

Dia ropes in SRK with Zayed's help

Shah Rukh Khan once again said main
hoon Na to Zayed Khan and Dia Mirza for
their upcoming film Love BreakUps
Zindagi. Dia Mirza had reportedly
approached several top stars to do a
cameo in her first production, but no one
was available. It was then when SRK
agreed to appear in her film.
Dia was elated when SRK turned up for the
shoot on the sets in Mumbai."SRK is
friends with Dia and she was keen on
having a big name in her film. So Zayed
approached SRK and he agreed to make a
brief appearance in the film," a source
said.In real life too, SRK seems to be
saying main hoon Na to Zayed.

Akon Set to Tour with Shahrukh Khan?

The official confirmation of Akon will
depend on his upcoming knee surgery. If
he goes under the knife before July, he will
recover in time for the tour in September.
However, if not, then there is a chance that
all bets may be off. So until we find out, we
are keeping our fingers crossed!

Imogen’s game for Bollywood

Grammy winner Imogen Heap says she’s never seen anything like Bollywood. The 34 -year-old British singer-composer-songwriter, who partied with Shah Rukh Khan while on a visit to India recently, is enamoured by the man and the industry. “ I attended the Ra.One ( SRK’s film) party and what struck me about SRK was the way he is around people, whether they’re famous or not famous. He’s really amazing at just making you feel like you’re the only one in the room and I was really impressed,” she says.

Sleep less, do more?

Do ambitious people keep longer waking hours, and is this the secret behind their success? While an average person requires six to seven hours' sleep, one wonders if ambitious people are programmed to restrict their sleeping time. "Three-four hours of sleep; that does it, for me," says Shah Rukh Khan. 'Iron Lady' Margaret Thatcher isn't far behind — she ruled over Britain with as little sleep on her side. TV host Jay Leno tickles your funny bone with, again, four hours of snooze, while 'Material Girl' Madonna belts out chartbusters with minimum beauty sleep. Benjamin Franklin mirrored Thomas Edison's contempt for sleeping long hours, when he said, "There will be sleeping enough in the grave". Dozing for a mere two to four hours every night, he gave us the famous quote, "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise".

'I don't kiss in films, never will', says Shahrukh Khan

New Delhi, May 6 ( IANS) In 22 years of his showbiz career, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has perhaps hardly ever locked lips with his heroines and says he never will. He admits he is not just uncomfortable about kissing on screen, but doesn't even know how to do it. 'I don't kiss on screen because I don't know how to do it. I don't do it because I feel weird...and I feel those who do it in films, do it well already,' Shah Rukh told reporters here Friday. 'I feel discomfort in doing two things for films. When anyone comes to narrate a story to me, I tell them two things - main ghoda nahin chalaunga aur main choomunga nahin (I won't ride a horse and I won't kiss),' added the 45- year-old. Shah Rukh's well-known witty side came through when a young journalist asked him if reports that he has kissed Kareena Kapoor for his upcoming sci-fi superhero film 'Ra.One', are true. Looking dashing in a formal black suit, he seemed to be quite amused at being asked such a question at a press conference meant for the formal announcement of Tag Heuer's tie-up with Buddh International Circuit, the host of Formula One in India. 'Where did you read these reports,' he asked. 'They are all over the internet, probably reported from Mumbai,' she said nonchalantly. 'How old are you my dear?' asked Shah Rukh, and the lady responded: 'I am 25. But you shouldn't ask a girl her age.' Came SRK's quick rejoinder: 'Well, dear, you don't ask such questions to men! You've asked me this, I am a simple guy, married man with kids...but don't ask such a question to men on the street! But, because you are young, and possibly just stepped into journalism, please don't believe whatever you read on the internet. It may not always be true.' Shah Rukh says if a film requires him to do things which make him uncomfortable, he quits it. 'I don't kiss simply because I am not comfortable doing it. I am pretty uncomfortable even at laughing in my films...so whenever there is a scene where I have to laugh, or where there is a scene where I am uncomfortable or I feel I will not be able to do justice to it, and whenever there are animals involved and I feel they might be mistreated, I quit the film in its narration itself.'

King Khan 1 crore G.one suit will go Digital

The 3 D action hero's outfit for Ra.One will get more expensive as Shah Rukh Khan insists on 'computerising' it to add special effects The blue coloured costume made in Los Angeles especially for the flick Ra.One and costing a whopping rupees one crore is now being converted into CG (computer generated graphics). This means the bodysuit donned by Shah Rukh Khan's character G.One that the audience will finally see on screen will be created with the help of special effects. SRK is leaving no stone unturned to get a perfect look for his character G.One in the upcoming 3 D action flick A well-placed source informs, "The perfectionist SRK is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the film is made well." He doesn't want to compromise on any front. After seeing the rushes of G. One's look, he felt it wasn't up to the mark and could be improved. So after brainstorming sessions with the animation and marketing team he decided to add special effects to the costume." "A lot of interesting effects like rays emitting out of the outfit have been added." It goes perfectly with SRK's character who is made of solid electricity and has come in the real world from a virtual world to fight against Ra.One the evil force." Director of the movie, Anubhav Sinha said, "It is natural to have myths and legends associated with a superhero film. This will be one of the early legends of G.One."

Shahrukh Khan flaunts his grey stubble

On Thursday afternoon, actor Shah Rukh Khan, 45 , came to the Capital sporting a grey stubble, among other things. A string of beads dangling loosely from his left hand, the actor sauntered in at the ITC Maurya hotel to cheer for his team Kolkata Knight Riders, who played against the Delhi Dared evils later that evening in the city’s Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Reported as his newfound lucky charm, the bead-string drew much attention, but not more than his salt-and- pepper look. The actor also wore an emerald green ring on his right hand and a pair of black shades. His signature reading glasses with red hinges rested on his cleave. Shah Rukh had last created ripples with his unkempt long locks, a look he revealed in the capital while shooting for his forthcoming film, Don 2 , in February. Now, though, he seems to have discovered his ‘grey’ streak, which he had sported earlier in the hit 2007 film, Chak De! India.

Shah Rukh mania grips Delhiites at Ferozeshah Kotla

NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders' owner Shah Rukh Khan on Thursday stole the show as spectators jostled for a glimpse of the Bollywood superstar during his team's IPL match against Delhi Daredevils. Shah Rukh got a rousing reception from the near capacity crowd at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium as he entered the owner's arena near the team's dugout zone. It was a sultry summer night and the temperature soared with the arrival of Shah Rukh. The actor's presence left the spectators jostling for space to feast their eyes on the superstar. Shah Rukh, in his usual charming manner, blew kisses on the air towards the crowd, and won their hearts. KKR batsman Manoj Tiwary welcomed his team owner with a huge six as he smashed a full toss off Ajit Agarkar over deep square leg. Wearing a black tee and light denims, Shah Rukh was seen with his friend Vivek Khushlani at the owner's pad. Delhi boy but KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir also got a warm welcome from the crowd. Shah Rukh admitted that it has been tough three years for KKR in the IPL and hoped his side will do well this time around. In all the earlier three seasons in the IPL, KKR have failed to reach the semifinals. "It's been tough three years for us. Somehow we could not get the desired results. But we continued to do well and I hope this time we will do well," said Shah Rukh. He said his presence has proved lucky for the team on many occasions. "I am from Delhi and it's wonderful to be back at the Kotla grounds after a gap of 30 years. So I am happy to be here. My presence has been lucky for my team," he said. The Bollywood superstar said that the tournament is still wide open and no one can predict which team is going to win it. "Every team is giving 100 per cent. You can't say much at this stage. I only know that Kolkata are doing good job so far," he added.

'Ra.One' is progressing 24X7

It is a known fact that 'Ra. One' requires extensive post production as it is pretty heavy on VFX. So much so that quite a lot of outsourcing has happened to various companies that are located not just in USA and India but also London, Paris, China and Bangkok. "Though Shahrukh has an in-house VFX division in his production house, he is not relying on that alone to get all the results. In fact when most films would be content to have just one company, whether in India or abroad, to work on the visual effects, 'Ra. One' has gone much beyond", informs a source close to the actor. No wonder, film's director Anubhav Sinha is still trying to adjust himself to an all-day job where he is required to work with technicians from countries spread all across the time zones. "While first half of my day goes onto editing and visuals effects, second half has me working on the background score," says Anubhav, "Then in the night I have online meetings with people in America and Europe. The film's post production is a different challenge by itself. I am pretty much on the job 24 X7. The day I take some rest, it comes on a premium."

Its time to Move On for KolKata

Kolkata is known for its love for sport be it football or be it Cricket or any sport, that is what we have seen so far, and 12 th april night they prove it again by coming in big numbers to watch KKR vs DC ipl4 T20 match, to support their home team KolKata Knight Riders. Of course the numbers of people were less than we have expected but it was around 70 % of capacity. Considering the capacity of the Edan Garden it was quite good. But the absence of the legend Saurabh Ganguly in public was quite visible and it is understandable too but not a bright sign for the future of sports in KolKata, Ganguly has been a legend player & captain of India for long time, he took the command of Indian cricket when Indian cricket was hanging between clouds of fixing and uncertainties, at that time He comes and took Indian cricket from that place to the top at 2003 world cup final. Today India is No.1 team in test, No.1 in ODIs & World Champions, Ganguly & other seniors gave that believe in Indian youngsters that they can become world champion, they have the capablities and talent, Ganguly started the revolution in Indian cricket & Mahendra Singh dhoni is taking it to the top. In this journey Kolkata had been always behind him to support, in this journey for some people Ganguly has been the inspiration to come and watch cricket, be it in Team India or be it later KKR which is quite understandable seeing their love for ganguly but at the same time this section of people forgot that cricket not only cricket but every sports have its hard rules which no one can skip or ignore for so long, there is a limit for everything, one has to stop somewhere around. Ganguly was known as a winning captain throughout his career in Team India and it was expected with KKR too, but things went wrong terribly for KKR and as being the captain of KKR went for Saurabh too rest is history no KKR fans want to remember. Before saying good bye to international cricket everyone knows SG was struggling a lot on the field, He scored lots of runs to support him but that SG was nowhere around which we were use to see, It was SG’s hard working nature which was motivating him to keep hanging there but it was painful to see your fav batsman on the field struggling to play his shots, every time he has to come on the field to prove that he still can play, the indication was clear that was time for SG to sign off to cricket but he took it little far away. After Ganguly joined KKR no doubt he was scoring runs, he has been the top run scorers from KKR in few seasons of IPL, for a class where SG belongs it was no surprising to see him scoring runs, but he was struggling in the same time for scoring these runs which was not a good sign for KKR, SG was playing for KKR in his extended like career which was not good for a legend, in between we can not blame SG for all others were responsible for same. And for a captain no matter how bad or good he has performed in the end result matters which never come in SG’s way. In cricket one day you have to say good bye to it, it’s the reality if someone don’t say, cricket will say itself, be it Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavskar or Anil Kumble. Anil kumble is the best example of what a cricketer should do and how a cricketer should finish his career, today if you bring Anil Kumble on the field he will strike again but he sign off his career at the top of his game. And the same way SG have to accept the fact of cricket. There is a section of people who loves SG have to understand this fact & respect it otherwise they are simply ruining the respect of SG’s in the heart of Indians. On the other side KKR had no option rather than starting from the scratch, the anger of people ( some section) is understandable but not mature to support in any case, People should understand that everything does not end with SG, this attitude of people if it is a big section of total will ruin the future of young players from Kolkata, there are many young players from Kolkata are playing for KKR, they are future of sports, they need your support, if you don’t support them they are not going to make it to the top and it is not a healthy thing. Its not only KKR, everyone else be it any other IPL franchises or BCCI selection committee everyone will think twice before picking any player from Kolkata because of this kind of immatureness, and the result you can think of.   On the positive side which is the bigger section of people will keep supporting their young players, which was clearly shown in the match KKR vs DC. This is the right time for SG to come up & support young players. If he comes up & support them it will be great gesture for young players playing there. If he decides to stay back & lets the things happening around which some immature section of people are calling revenge of Kolkata than it will be like a win where in which you are going to lost everything , the young players will blame you for years to come. We hope SG would not want it to happen and he will come up, if he won’t come up than it will be unfortunate thing. On a positive note let’s hope KKR will do better this time & we know win can change everything in any sports. And Its time to move on for Kolkata to produce another Saurabh Ganguly from KolKata otherwise it will not be good for sports in Kolkata. “Change is the rule of universe those who don’t change, don’t exists”

Wolverine to take on Ra.One!! Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan together!!

Karan Johar to bring Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan together Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman and Shah Rukh Khan will meet at a film and media conference to be held in Mumbai, for an interaction on the two biggest film industries across the globe. And if the two hunks on stage are not enough, none other than, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be introducing the Wolverine star on stage. However, it all wouldn’t have been possible without Karan Johar. “It was Fox Star and Karan who were instrumental in bringing Hugh to Mumbai,” reveals a source. “Jackman will be coming down on 24th night and will be attending the closing ceremony of the conference on the 25 th. He will talk about cinema and the closing gap between Hollywood and Bollywood along with KJo and SRK. Shah Rukh will be the only star interacting with Jackman. It is still unknown if SRK or Karan will host a party for him to meet the other B-town celebrities later,” adds the source. When contacted, Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star India confirmed, saying, “We planned to bring a big Hollywood celebrity and Hugh is right up there. He was our first choice and everything fell into place. We are delighted to have Hugh coming down. He is going to attend the closing session of the conference . Karan will be in conversation with Hugh and Shah Rukh Khan. It will be a wonderful platform due to the  presence of  two of the best from their respective industries.”
Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra recently split- up but the duo seems very much together and looks like they do not carry ill- feeling between them. They exchanged pleasantries, chatted, talked about movies at Shahrukh Khan ’s post-holi bash held at Mannat. They look so friendly that hardly one would believe they have broken up. Their action shows that all is well between them. A source revealed, "They came separately in different cars. Inside Mannat, however, it didn`t seem like there was any tension between the two. Shahid was in a good mood. He mingled with everyone. PC, too, was cheerful and was stuck to Shah Rukh`s side for most of the evening." Host Shah Rukh didn’t have to play peacemaker between the two. "PC and Shasha got talking and exchanging notes about each other`s films. She updated him about her recent Malaysia schedule for ‘Don 2’. The last time they were at a party was for Karan` Johar`s ‘My Name Is Khan’ celebratory bash. They were still seeing each other at the time." Both are smart enough, due to personal reasons they does not want to damage their professional life. The duo will soon start shooting for Kunal Kohli’s film.

It’s a Bad Time for Shahrukh Khan

The Baadshah of Bollywood, King Khan may have made many women go week in their knees via his dimpled smile and out-of- the-world romantic movies but has failed to spell the same magic on small screen. All three of his ventures Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), Kya Aap Panchvi Passs Se Tez Hai and Zor ka Jhatka have not washed down well with the audience. Though, the star was able to create some stir as a host of KBC, but according to watchdogs, it was all because of the show’s publicity bestowed by Big B in its former seasons. It is speculated that the show’s TRP suffered so much so that the producer decided to rope in Amitabh Bachhan again for its last season. Seems like, the charm of the superstar is no more able to attract the masses with most of his recent flicks My Name is Khan, Billoo Barber, Rab Ne Mila Di Jodi and Dulha Mil Gaya crashing at the box office. Interestingly, the rival Khan, Salman is doing much better both on big as well as on small screen. He has not only raked in moolah with blockbusters like Wanted and Dabangg but also became favourite among masses with TV shows like Dus Ka Dum and BigBoss.

The war continues...

Four years after the OSO- Saawariya face off, SRK and Sanjay Leela Bhansali to clash once again Diwali 2007 : Shah Rukh Khan s Om Shanti Om and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya clashed at the box office . History is going to repeat itself this June 17 , when Khan’s home production Always Kabhi Kabhi and Bhansali’s production My Friend Pinto releases on the same day . However, this time around, SRK and Bhansali are just the producers of their respective films unlike four years back. A source recalled for us, “SRK and Bhansali were close friends and when their films clashed in 2007 , SRK had said that he would try and speak to the director. Once the clash was inevitable, both of them started a media war. Incidentally, Farah Khan said that if Bhansali would make Om Shanti Om, he would name it Maa Shanti Maa. This irked Bhansali no end. Hence, started a series of interviews where Bhansali showed his displeasure towards SRK and Farah. In fact, he even went on to say that he was not excited to see Om Shanti Om. Salman Khan , who was good friends with SRK around that time, said that he would be promoting OSO and SRK replied saying, if Bhansali asks, then even he would promote Saawariya.” This time around, Always Kabhi Kabhi will mark the directorial debut of Roshan Abbas and cast that includes Zoa Morani and other newcomers. This will contrast with Bhansali’s My Friend Pinto having an ensemble cast , with Raghav Dar making his debut as an actor. Let’s see who wins round 2.

Shah Rukh's post-Holi party

Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan hosted a Holi bash yesterday at their home , Mannat. Held late last evening, it was different as it began at a time when all other Holi parties had ended. Says a source, " Having a post-Holi party was Gauri's idea. SRK had been out of town for a long time and a get-together would help him reconnect with friends. The logic plainly was that Holi parties, though great fun, are too noisy and mess up the garden and house with colours and water." Another reason was the India- West Indies cricket match in the evening. "SRK and his friends love watching the match together on his huge LCD screen at Mannat." Adds the source, "Though it was a post-Holi party, guests were served bhaang and jalebi along with a variety of Indian sweets and a lavish dinner. Gauri sent out personal invites." WHO ATTENDED The usual suspects: Karan Johar, Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Aditya Chopra, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey, Kaajal Anand, Rima Jain, Priyanka Chopra, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, Farhan and Adhuna Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia. Politicians should not use religion as agenda: SRK

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says politicians should not use religion as an agenda and spread derogatory feelings about one another. 'I don't understand why it happens, but I truly believe that politicians should not use religion as an agenda,' said Shah Rukh at the India Today Conclave. 'It is just not acceptable. The issues like education, women's upliftment, leadership qualities, which are sidelined under the term of social issues, are the basic political issues which need to be looked upon and should be brought into light,' he added. The 45- year-old says religion is not subjective, but is all about having faith. 'I am a Muslim myself but my children know about all religions and its my conscious decision to make them aware of it. Religion is nothing but to have faith in your god, it should not be subjected to Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian. Nobody in this world has the right to come between you and your god,' he concluded firmly. o

related stories Dabangg director chooses Sallu over SRK Mughal-E-Azam is the Shahrukh Khan's Ra.One has beaten Aamir Khan's film 3 Idiots' record of the highest price for satellite rights. Ra.One's satellite rights have been bought for a whopping amount of Rs 40 crore. The rights for 3 Idiots were sold for Rs 36 crore, reported Mid-Day. Ra.One is also one of the costliest films so far and with state of the art technology and snazzy costumes, this is no surprise. SRK' s Ra.One has several international celebrities; the special effects are being done by Hollywood artists, so this film sure needs to recover its costs. And this is just the beginning, knowing Shah Rukh, he will leave no stone unturned in promoting the film and he'll do it with style!

Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Ra.One’ makes big bucks! The satellite rights of Shahrukh Khan’s dream project ‘ Ra.One’ sold for Rs 40 crore!

Shahrukh Khan ’s big-budget film Ra.One has already started earning big bucks. The film's satellite rights have reportedly been sold for a whopping Rs 40 crore . Yes, highest ever for a Bollywood film. Earlier, Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots was sold for Rs 36 crore to a channel. The release date of Ra.One is not yet confirmed, then too the film was bought for such a humongous amount, and the credit goes to its producer Shahrukh Khan, who is making this sci-fi film on a production scale so large that no other Bollywood film can match up to it. As a source is quoted by a tabloid, “The film has a huge budget; so obviously, as a producer he wants to make as much money through pre-release distribution avenues.” Selling the satellite rights prior to film’s release is not new. Last year’s major releases Guzaarish , Dabangg and Tees Maar Khan were sold to different channels for a hefty amount. Shahrukh Khan has even hired some of the best Hollywood SFX people to work on Ra.One and make the film a technical wonder. Shahrukh plays a superhero in this film that also stars Kareena Kapoor in the lead. In the movie’s title RA stands for ‘Random Access’.

There's no bigger superstar than me: SRK

Shah Rukh Khan said that the film industry needs to learn a few things if it truly wants to go global. Actor Shah Rukh Khan on Friday said there was no bigger superstar than him and that he wished to be recognised by all age groups, especially the young people. Khan wowed the audience and kept them in splits throughout his session 'Movies, magic, life -- Making movies work in a brand new decade' at the 10 Conclave in New Delhi. While agreeing that movies are a way of life for India, Khan said that the film industry needs to learn a few things if it truly wants to go global. Known for his wit and easy charm, Khan was a different, more serious self as he broke down the issues plaguing the industry. "We need scientific screenplay writing and the organisation and discipline we see in Hollywood and the science of marketing firms," explained the Om Shanti Om star. Recounting a meeting with Hollywood actor Will Smith, he said that Smith had shared that he worked in just two films a year, one was to satisfy the actor in himself and the second was to satisfy the urge of working with someone bigger than him. Khan joked that his problem was that couldn't find a bigger superstar but, on a serious note, he added that the bigger star needs to be visual effects. Sharing his secret ingredient of making the movies work in a brand new decade, he said that though the Indian film industry had the music, the film and the math ( economics), it was missing a symbiotic relationship with Hollywood. Also tearing into the Indian industry's long-time obsession with crossover films and actors, Khan suggested a ban on the phrase "crossover films" because they just don't exist. "We should instead take Bollywood to the world," he said. "Mumbai to Melrose, the road is shrinking. Warner Brothers and Sony are making movies here while UTV is doing the same in Hollywood. If you want to do crossover films, then you are barking up the wrong tree because the Indian audience loves the musical dramas," said Khan. Abiding by his wife Gauri Khan's strict instructions not to make a clown of himself, Khan, instead, thrilled the gathering by flashing them a lightning fast look at his four-pack, if not a full six-pack, abdomen. On a more sombre note, he also touched upon communal tensions. He explained that the reason the film industry has not fallen prey to such filmmaking is because it makes films that have to please everyone and are acceptable to the whole country. On politics, Khan added, "Politicians should not come between you and your God." He later diffused the solemn topic by joking that if he were the prime minister, he would probably take a holiday right now to an undisclosed location. In the end, he aptly described what his epitaph would read. For Khan, who can charm a billion Indian hearts and break them just as easily, his life would read, "Here is Shah Rukh Khan. He tried hard. Very hard." o

Shahrukh khan’s new look in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 2- The Chase Continues’ is creating news. The king khan is seen flaunting his unkempt long tresses and grungy look these days in which he is looking every inch the don character. He is sporting a rugged look with long locks, he had acquired with the help of hair extensions. Not very happy about the look SRK was quoted as saying, “ When I used to get up in the morning, I used to feel there were a lot of others sleeping with me. It used to take two people to shampoo my hair and believe me, I didn’t feel pampered at all…So I feel it’s amazing how girls are able to manage long hair everyday.” The actor who is back to his normal look now also stated that his respect for girls with long hair has increased manifold. “I think girls are wonderful, for they are able to keep long hair for years and years. It’s great. I had to maintain long hair for my look in ‘Don 2′ and that was the first thing I wanted to get rid of after I finished shooting for the movie.” He further revealed that he was so desperate to get back to his short hair that he got his hairdresser to trim his locks at 3 a.m. as soon as he finished shooting for the movie. Ashita's addicted to SRK's movies

Ashita Dhawan is a die-hard Shah Rukh Khan fan and everyone on the sets of Raakesh Paswan's Baba Aiso Varr Dhundo on Imagine TV, is aware of her love for the Badshah Khan. She is addicted to   SRK 's movies and can watch them time and again. And guess what her prized possession is? An old picture of her with the superstar clicked a few years ago. "I love everything about him. I love every movie of his and I have seen all of them. In fact I even like to watch Guddu and Dil Aashana Hai, and when someone sees me watching it, they are shocked! My all-time favourite of course is DDLJ, which I have seen more than 50 times. So are also Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chak De! India, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham." And if you've not had enough of this, there's more. She knows all his dialogues by heart. RA.One’s VFX supervisor wants credit for his 750-strong team

ShahRukh Khan In Ra.One as G.One ShahRukh Khan Pic Star-producer Shah Rukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that his superhero sci-fi fantasy, RA. One, is a one-of-its-kind Hindi film. Recently, director Anubhav Sinha got a mail from his VFX producer, Keitan Yadav, stating that officially 750 people were working on the visual effec related stories Anubhav reaction was, “I love my team, I love my kafila. Shah Rukh and I started dreaming about RA. One four years ago, and today such a large number of talent is colouring that dream. I can never thank them enough.” The team has been picked from across five countries, including India, Canada, France, Thailand and the US. And at least five of them, Anubhav, Keitan, Jeff Kleiser, the lead VFX supervisor, Harry Hingorani another supervisor, are on video conference everyday at the oddest of hours because of the time difference. Anubhav admits that both Shah Rukh and he are making this film primarily for their kids. “Shah Rukh’s son Aryan is 13 , and his daughter Suhana is 10 , while my son, Shlok, is nine. Every father wants to be a superhero in the eyes of his child,” he muses. “It’s a cycle. As a parent you go beyond your capabilities to make your child proud of you. And then, when the child grows up, he or she goes beyond his capabilities to make his parents proud of him. It’s my turn now, both as a father and a son.” Just before the film’s first look was unveiled, Anubhav left on a 10- day, much- needed break. On his return, he was prepared for some negative reactions because Shah Rukh has never been presented like this before. “SRK’s blue look has been universally acceptable,” he exults, quick to dismiss speculations about RA.One being a ‘desi’ Avatar. “But if it does even half the business of James Cameron’s sci-fi adventure, I’ll be a superhero.” In this age of sequels, will we see a RA. Two? “Why not?” retorts Anubhav. “ Sequels are in vogue, and this one is designed as a franchise. But there’s still time for Part 2. Right now, I’m so busy with RA.One that I have no time to eat or sleep. I haven’t even had a drink in months.”

Shah Rukh hosts special screening for Always Kabhi Kabhi

Shah Rukh hosts special screening for Always Kabhi Kabhi Guess some of the good habits of Aamir Khan are rubbing over Shah Rukh Khan as well. It is a known fact that Aamir Khan hosts special screenings for practically each of his films prior to their theatrical release. Now Shah Rukh too has done the same for Always Kabhi Kabhi , a film coming from his production house which is directed by Roshan Abbas. Informs a source closely attached to the film, "Yes, there were a couple of test screenings that were held a few weeks back. Unlike many film makers who host special screenings only in Mumbai, Shah Rukh took the film to Delhi as well. He wanted to gauge reaction from the two biggest audience bases for his campus entertainer." The test screening was held for hundreds of students and youngsters who belonged to 14-24 year age group, which is also the film's target audience. This is not a first in Bollywood though as Aamir has done this for each of his films, whether it is 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par or even nephew Imran's Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa . "The idea is to closely monitor audience reaction and see which are the scenes that are the highest as well as the lowest points in the film's narrative. Roshan was quite involved in both these screenings and took notes so that he could go back to the editing table and make necessary changes, if required", continues the source. Roshan doesn't deny that these screenings indeed took place. "I had shown Shah Rukh some portions of the film to understand if we are reaching out to the audience we had in mind", he says, "I was also of the view that we should show the film to sample of such audience. Shah Rukh too converged on my point of view and we went ahead with the screenings." Since the film's final edit was not yet done, Roshan and his team set expectations with the audience. "We told that that the film that we were showing them was a rough cut and yet to be polished in totality", says Roshan, "To our delight though, the audience was pretty involved with what they saw and later commented that the film was reflecting their own story. They laughed with us at the right spots and then went quiet when the story touched their hearts." Well Roshan, hope the wider audience too shares a similar thought. o

I am not a thief: SRK

After all the fun at brother-in-law Rustom Tiwari's wedding in the Capital, actor Shah Rukh Khan is back to work. In a chatty mood, he held no prisoners as he fielded queries from the media in Delhi on Monday. Some reports in the media had it that the Company Law Board (CLB) was set to levy a monetary penalty on SRK's company, Red Chillies Entertainment, for failing to file balance sheets and annual returns with the Registrar of Companies for the past four years. The board also proposed that it would impose a fine of up to Rs 7. 5 lakh on the company. To this, Shah Rukh, in town for a promotional event for Nokia, said, "I have no idea about it as I have been out of the country for because of shoots. I am a law-abiding citizen of the country, and the highest tax payer. I follow rules, but if there is any such problem, I will check on it and sort it out. I am not a thief. If there has been an oversight, it will be checked immediately." The actor, 45 , who was once very active on microblogging site Twitter, has tweeted only thrice since November last year. When asked why, he said, "To begin with, I don't know how to deal with people. And when I was on Twitter, people would ask me very intrusive questions. They would ask stuff that even my closest friends would not. I was sharing personal details on Twitter, including my kids' pictures, but after I realised it was getting too personal, I got back to my reclusive, unsocial self. I don’t need to promote my films on Twitter." Khan also spoke at length about his IPL cricket team, Kolkata Knight Riders. When asked to comment on the buzz about Shakira co-starring in a music video with him, he said, "I have a team of people working around the marketing for KKR. I have no clue if Shakira is going to dance for KKR. It is wonderful if she is going to ... but I really don't know anything till now." And then, he ate the humble pie. “As the owner of the team, I think I have let KKR down since the team hasn’t being doing well. But, it is not in my hands, as I am not playing on the ground." IPL and its Lalit Modi have been indispensable since the beginning of the tournament but not with Modi gone, but will IPL be same? He answers, “To be honest, I have realized in the field of cricket or entertainment, no one is indispensable. And the matter of fact is that the game of cricket is much important than any individual.” Shah Rukh Khan, who grew his hair long for his role in upcoming film Don - The Chase Continues , also revealed that his respect for girls with long hair has increased manifold since he donned long tresses for Don. Explaining it he said, “ I think girls are wonderful, for they are able to keep long hair for years and years. It's simply remarkable I had to maintain long hair for my look in Don 2 and that was the first thing I wanted to get rid of after I finished shooting for the movie. I got my hairdresser to trim my locks at 3 a.m. as soon as I finished shooting for the movie. When I used to get up in the morning, I used to feel there were a lot of others sleeping with me. It used to take two people to shampoo my hair I feel it's amazing how girls are able to manage long hair everyday," he said. Lastly, the actor seemed very passionate while talking about his upcoming superhero film Ra.One . He says, in my 20 years of career, I haven’t given back to the film industry. But this film is my attempt to give back to the industry.  The special effects of Ra.One will surely be something that Indian movies have never seen before. It is undoubtedly, the most expensive film ever and I hope all be it kids, youngsters love it. I am very passionate about it and hope I get it right.” o

Aamir khan follows Hrithik

There is no doubt left that the entire world goes crazy over Bollywood’s most talented actor Aamir Khan . Mr. Perfectionist is one of the finest artist who has proved his determination in the film fraternity and always desires to go beyond the palpable. Aamir Khan is considered as a one man army who can handle a film on his shoulders without anybody’s help. But it seems that the awesome and flawless actor has been socked up by another talented Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan mystery. The ‘ 3 Idiots ’ superstar was spotted cheerfully chatting with Hrithik Roshan at the launch of Sussanne Roshan’s new store recently. Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan On being questioned about his preparations for the upcoming movie Dhoom 3 , in which Aamir will play a negavtive role as reported, expressed his admiration for friend Hrithik Roshan and said that he wants to take tips from Hrithik as he is a great actor. Now, after portraying a good boy image, will Aamir’s negative character going to be appreciated by the audience, time will tell us! More to add in Bollywood masala is that the action hero Akshay Kumar is highly impressed with Aamir Khan over his recent small budget movies Peepli Live and Dhobi Ghat that have done quiet well at the box office. The khiladi king felt that the best combo as a producer is to make movies that are rich in content and low on the budget prospect. Speaking about his stretch as a producer Akshay told that the rich content, low-budget films are good to watch, but the problem is that very few won the race. Akshay further added that an star’s price that rocket the budget. As producers it’s not easy to do movies that get great reviews and at the same time also gross more collections. It’s a uncommon combination, but if it happens it is a great achievement. Aamir Khan has made a good name for himself in the industry and he can do it, but it’s not easy job for everyone. Presently, Akshay Kumar is looking forward to break some fresh ground with his upcoming slide of movies.
